What is Lipedema?
Lipedema is a chronic vascular and inflammatory condition that primarily affects women. It is characterized by the abnormal accumulation of fat, most commonly in the legs, but sometimes in the arms and lower trunk.
Unlike ordinary weight gain, lipedema is resistant to diet, exercise, diuretics, and bariatric surgery. Beyond physical appearance, it can lead to pain, tenderness, swelling, easy bruising, and impaired mobility, affecting both physical and emotional well-being.
Main Causes
Hormonal changes play a central role in lipedema, with symptoms often worsening during puberty, pregnancy, menopause, and other times of hormonal fluctuation. Increased estrogen uptake in the lower limbs promotes fat accumulation, creating poorly oxygenated, disorganized tissue that is prone to swelling, cellulite, and discomfort. Genetics and inflammation also contribute to the condition.

Diagnosis Challenges
Lipedema is often misdiagnosed as obesity, lymphedema, or other conditions. There are currently no definitive lab tests, so diagnosis relies on a trained clinician's physical examination and medical history review. Many patients may have lipedema alongside other conditions, highlighting the importance of specialized care.

Why Choose Lipedema Conservative Care at Flow Lymphatic
Living with lipedema is about more than just physical symptoms. Many women experience frustration, self-consciousness, and emotional strain as they navigate a condition that is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. Swelling, tenderness, and the appearance of disproportionate fat can make daily activities more difficult and affect confidence, body image, and overall well-being.
We understand that lipedema is not a problem you can simply “exercise away” or “diet off.” It is a chronic condition that requires specialized care, patience, and understanding. You may have tried multiple treatments or lifestyle changes without seeing the results you hoped for, and that can feel discouraging.

At Flow Lymphatic, we approach lipedema with empathy and expertise. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive space where your concerns are heard and addressed. Every treatment plan is designed to:
- Reduce discomfort and swelling
- Support mobility and circulation
- Improve the appearance of affected areas
- Restore confidence and a sense of control over your body
We believe that healing is not only about managing symptoms but also about reclaiming comfort, confidence, and a better quality of life. You are not alone, and every step of your journey is met with understanding, patience, and care.
